Your telescope’s model tells you more about accessory fit than its aperture alone. Use this guide to choose a dew shield, focusing mask or matched system—and understand how the parts work together.

Start with your exact telescope model
A 6-inch SCT, a 150 mm Maksutov and a 150 mm Newtonian can have different tube rims, front cells and clearances. Matching the aperture number is not enough. Find the full model name on your telescope or its manual, then select that model on the product page before choosing a color.
- Identify the optical tube. Record the brand, full model name and telescope type. Include a generation or variant name such as EdgeHD when applicable.
- Match the product’s Telescope selector. Some options group several names for the same supported fit family. Availability varies by product; the choices on that product page are the current ordering options.
- Keep a system on the same model selection. A cap or mask must match the telescope-model choice of your StargazeWorks shield.
- Check unusual hardware. If your tube has an aftermarket front-cell accessory, cables or hardware near the rim, send us a photo and the model name before ordering. Never force a part into place.

Standard or Premium dew shield?
A dew shield extends in front of the telescope. It limits exposure to the cold night sky and helps delay dew on the front optical surface. It also shades that surface from some nearby light. Humidity and observing conditions still matter: a shield alone may not keep optics clear all night, and damp conditions may call for a suitable dew heater.
Standard: a simple, smooth interior
The Telescope Dew Shield has no internal baffles. Choose it for a straightforward model-specific shield, or as the starting point for a matching cap and mask system.
Premium: internal rings for stray-light control
The Premium Telescope Dew Shield with Stray Light Control adds internal baffles: rings designed to intercept off-axis light before it reaches the telescope. The ring design is informed by ray tracing. “Baffled” describes these internal light-control rings.
Choose Premium when stray light from nearby lamps or other off-axis sources is a concern. Both shield designs work with matching StargazeWorks masks and caps.

One system, two ways to fit
StargazeWorks masks and dust caps are designed to fit directly on the telescope or on the matching StargazeWorks dew shield. You can focus with the shield in place and cap the same system between sessions. Choose the same telescope model for every component.
- Without a shield: fit the matching focusing mask directly to the telescope for focusing, or use the matching dust cap when the telescope is not in use.
- With a shield: fit the shield to the telescope first, then fit the matching focusing mask or dust cap to the shield’s front interface.
- With an isolation mask: use it with the matching Tri-Bahtinov mask to inspect one grating sector at a time. It is a companion to the Tri-Bahtinov, not a standalone focusing mask.

These illustrate the system; your selected model determines the supplied geometry. The shared interface described here applies to matching StargazeWorks parts, not every third-party shield.
Which focusing mask do you need?
Bahtinov mask: a straightforward focusing aid. Aim at a suitable bright star and adjust focus until the central diffraction spike sits between the other spikes. Remove the focusing mask before normal observing or imaging.
Tri-Bahtinov mask: three grating sectors provide patterns for assessing focus and collimation. The isolation mask helps inspect those sectors separately. Follow your telescope’s collimation procedure when interpreting and adjusting alignment.
Diffraction spike masks: create intentional 4-, 6- or 8-point star-spike patterns. They serve a different purpose from a focusing mask.
