Stray light control with creative imaging

Includes the dew shield for stray light control, tri-Bahtinov mask, isolation mask, three spike masks (4-point, 6-point and 8-point) and dust cap: seven pieces total.

Dew shield for stray light control

Internal rings, called baffles, help redirect light arriving at an angle away from the optics. Their shape is informed by ray tracing. The shield also helps delay dew on exposed front optics.

Tri-Bahtinov mask

Creates three diffraction patterns to help you judge focus and optical alignment on a bright star.

Isolation mask

Used with the tri-Bahtinov mask to cover two sectors and examine one pattern at a time.

Diffraction spike masks

A set of three removable masks for 4-point, 6-point and 8-point star spikes in your images.

Check focus and alignment

Use the tri-Bahtinov and isolation masks directly on the telescope or in the shield. Follow your telescope’s instructions for adjustments.

Choose your image

Remove the focusing masks. Add a spike mask and leave it fitted during the exposure when you want its star pattern; remove it for images without that added pattern.

Cover when finished

Use the dust cap on the telescope directly or on the matching shield between sessions.

How does the shield control stray light?

The rings inside a baffled dew shield intercept light coming in at an angle. Ray tracing helped us choose ring angles that direct reflections away from the optics and into the spaces between the rings.

Which masks stay on for an exposure?

Remove the tri-Bahtinov and isolation masks after checking your setup. A spike mask stays fitted during an exposure when you want 4-point, 6-point or 8-point spikes.

Does the system work without the shield?

Yes. The masks and cap fit the telescope directly and the matching StargazeWorks shield. The isolation mask pairs with the tri-Bahtinov in either setup.

Which telescope model should I choose?

Choose the full telescope model name, then your color. Similar apertures can have different fittings. Sky-Watcher Explorer 150P / 150PDS and Quattro 150P use different parts; select the one you own. Contact us if your model is unclear or not listed.

What if the fit is not right?

If a part does not fit the telescope model on your order, contact us within 30 days of delivery. Confirmed fit or manufacturing issues receive a replacement at no charge. The guarantee does not cover selecting the wrong telescope model.

When will it arrive?

Normally dispatches in 1–3 business days. U.S. standard shipping is $8, or free on orders of $70 or more, with an estimated 3–5 business days in transit after dispatch. Express shipping is $15, with an estimated 1–2 business days in transit. Delivery estimates are shown at checkout.
